Executive Biography

Tom Nichols

Chief Vision & Standards Architect, Blockchain-Based Continuous Compliance System (BCCS)

Tom is a career aviation executive, global flight operations strategist, and 50-year professional pilot whose work has shaped airline safety cultures across South Asia, Central Asia, and the United States. His leadership, forged in some of the world's most complex regulatory environments, now anchors the vision and operational philosophy behind BCCS.

Tom learned flying from his father, Bob Nichols, and his maternal grandfather, Mac Shutts. Mac Shutts had been a civilian flight instructor in the US Army Air Corps and was a Captain with Trans World Airways (TWA). Tom attained a Private Pilot License in 1970.

He went on to graduate from the US Coast Guard Academy in 1975. After a tour as a deck watch officer afloat, he attended US Naval Flight training and became a US Coast Guard aviator in 1977. He went on to fly C-130s for the Coast Guard in Kodiak, Alaska before separating from the service to become an airline pilot in 1985.

Tom is a former Air Lines Captain with 12,400 total flight hours. He has spent his career building, strengthening, and auditing operational systems that keep airlines safe, compliant, and efficient.

Excellence in Training

Training, Standards, and Regulatory Alignment

Tom is a respected instructor, evaluator, and curriculum architect whose training experience spans the Boeing 737NG/MAX, 757, and 767 fleets.

Tom currently trains and evaluates B737 pilots under FAR-121 AQP, conducts proficiency checks, and mentors instructor cadres. His work with FAA Part 142 Training Centers included serving as an FAA Type Certificate Instructor/Examiner, writing instructional content, and supporting global client airlines across multiple fleets.

This combined experience—regulatory, instructional, and operational—gives Tom a 360-degree perspective of how compliance is built, maintained, and too often lost in the gaps between policy, training, and line operations.

Where Compliance Breaks Down

Why His Expertise Shapes the Core of BCCS

Tom's legacy in aviation operations gives him a unique understanding of where compliance breaks down:

  • Manual processes leading to errors
  • Data silos between departments
  • Delayed safety signals in outdated systems
  • Reliance on episodic audits instead of continuous oversight
  • Regulatory discrepancies between authorities
  • Organizational culture gaps that allow drift and deviation
